*NEW* BOX 23 TWIST

On 1 January 2014, an extra box - box 23 - was added to the game. At the end of the game after the 22 main boxes have been opened, the player can choose to 'deal' the chance to open box 23, which contains one of five options.

If they 'NO DEAL' box 23, their winnings remain unchanged.

If they 'DEAL' box 23, their total winnings from the game are 'given back', box 23 is opened, and the player's winnings change depending on which option is in the box.

The possible options are:

1. - The winnings are doubled

2. - £10,000 is added to the winnings

3. - The winnings are given back (i.e. nothing happens)

4. - The winnings are halved

5. - All winnings are lost (i.e. the player leaves with nothing)

Remember - if the player 'no deals' box 23, nothing happens to their winnings (and box 23 will presumably be opened anyway to see what would've happened if the player had 'dealt' it).

Note: Box 23 is 'loaded' by the independent adjudicator before the game starts, in the same way all the other boxes are.

Examples of scenarios where box 23 could be used (of course there are many, many more scenarios which could happen!):

• The player deals at £13,000 and 'deals' box 23. The box is opened to reveal "DOUBLE" - their winnings are doubled to £26,000.
• The player goes to the end, wins 1p and 'deals' box 23. The box is opened to reveal "+ £10,000" - their winnings are increased to £10,000.01.
• The player goes to the end, wins £15,000 and 'deals' box 23. The box is opened to reveal "MONEY BACK" - their winnings are 'given back' and therefore remain at £15,000.
• The player deals at £4,000 and 'deals' box 23. The box is opened to reveal "HALF" - their winnings are halved to £2,000.
• The player goes to the end, wins £3,000 and 'deals' box 23. The box is opened to reveal "NOTHING" - their winnings are eradicated and they leave with nothing.

I like it, I must admit. So does this mean that the Banker's Gamble as we once knew it is effectively scrapped? Can't see it ever being brought in to play again with this added twist, it would add too much to the game. I prefer this one though.

The "Bankers Gamble" is still well and truly alive.

Is the content of Box 23 picked at random?

Yep, by the IA. Only she knows whats inside, she chooses it like the other boxes, balls from the bag method.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that after 8 years the format was drying up and the various gimmicks over the years haven't been adequete enough to bring back the same quantity of viewers that originally tuned in. So it's a no brainer really!
