I've just done some number crunching:
£7,500 is the sixth lowest red. Back in the channel 4 era the sixth lowest red was £20,000. So if the board today was the same as it was in the original version Sian would've lost by £2,500.

Hmm... mixed thoughts, but there's some promise here.

The first few offers were awful, of course, but 17.5k was perfectly pitched. I'd have taken it too.

I have a hard time believing 3 box would've been as much as 26k and 2 box as much as 3.5k, but maybe they're repeating the 2005 banker strategy and making late game offers stupidly high in general. Time will tell.

I'm concerned that it'll be hard for them to keep this excitement up for many games though - Sian was a great choice of first contestant and had great luck to match, but her win here was akin to a 30 something grand win in the old show!

It's kept my interest for now.

I can't see it lasting as long as 3,000 episodes. Tipping Point will probably be back in the 4PM slot in about January, I reckon.

Also crazy to think that £10,000 is now the first of the Power 5 whereas in the C4 series that would've been the 4th lowest red.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Mulhern actually settles in over the next few games and also how flat everything feels when it's at regular daytime stakes rather than the Edmonds-era ones we got on this board. Will the 2005-esque offer pattern continue? I suspect it will, they clearly want to drag games to the business end and they might think this is the only way to do it with a 2023 contestant pool and a host who couldn't sell a heel turn like Noel even in the unlikely event he wanted to. Heck, we still nearly got an 8-box Deal here!

The main thing we can judge from this is whether the aesthetics of the show are good (and IMO they are, albeit generically so) and whether it's fun to see the show back in 2023 (it is). I do think that going this hard on the nostalgia angle (up to and including many of the people working on it!) brings even more attention to the prize money and will make this a flop that doesn't get renewed, but on this evidence I think we're actually going to feel sad about that.

Feels weird to be back on here and watching a brand new version. I was surprised at how much of the soundtrack was the same (especially around the Banker offers). I quite like the aesthetic of the show, even if I'd have liked the old style of boxes, but the box designs now fit in with the set and board.

Sian was a good choice of first player, and had the luck to get her through to the latter stages, which they will need when the stakes are lower than they used to be. Overall, I really enjoyed it and hope it builds momentum once it has a few shows under it's belt.

Just like old times, eh?
As someone who was obsessing over Deal 10 years ago when he was, like, knee high, I'm glad to see it it's return. It honestly feels like it hasn't left, aside from the new money ladder, Mulhern, the new set, the changes to the endgame, and the omission of those gimmicks they added that a lot of people didn't like. The Dream Spaceship (yes, that's what I'm calling the new set) looks decent enough but I think the phone looks a little bit too goofy and toy-like for my liking. Mulhern is doing a pretty good job as host as well, but I feel like that's to be expected.

My only real gripe with the revival (aside from The Banker's pitiful offers but, again, that's to be expected) is the money ladder. Personally I would have changed the red side to 1k, 3k, 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, 50k, 75k, and 100k, that way the reduced top prize is still intact and the contestants would have better offers.

A very good game to start the revival. You know I actually correctly predicted that the hypothetical 3 box offer would be The Governor and I am actually surprised that nobody here believed he would offer that.

So, we're back! :D :smt023

Well, I thought that was OK enough. Liking the new graphics; very much looked like what the show would've naturally evolved to if it had stayed on air. (In fact, there were a couple of shots where I thought we could as well have been watching a 'classic era' show!) Not sure about the new lower stakes board though, but I'm sure we'll get used to it.

As for Stephen M, I can't gauge him properly yet really as I watched it with the sound off and the subtitles on (I was watching a DVD at the same time); I'll reserve judgement there until I've been able to watch it with the sound on!

The game itself was a pretty decent one; looking forward to more! :smt023

Nice to have it back.

Think it suffers a bit from not having the £250k. Means offers are generally gonna be a bit low ball and removes a bit of the jeapordy from having that huge value in play.

Graphics are a nice refresh but I think the set is a bit generic ITV gameshow and lacks the character of the dream factory.

As ever it struggles with an hour runtime. Should really have gone with 45 mins especially with the lowered prizes.

Agree with most of what youve said although I'm OK with the hour duration. I think Stephen Mulhern did very well and while Noel is incomparable Stephen is a good choice. Although the 250K will be missed it didn't stop Old Faithful 26K make an appearance as an offer today and there is still the potential to win life changing money on daytime TV. One thing about today is that there was an unusually negative reaction to low reds being removed. Maybe that's because of the 7 year break. Although the set isn't as good as Bristol's dream factory its still good that DOND is back. Hopefully it will get a good run in 2024. This might depend upn ratings.

Pretty much the perfect game to start the revival with: great bubbly contestant and decent luck throughout that allowed the offers to get to heights they won't often be able to in the revival. :D

Hopefully this lays the groundwork for a decent series but we'll have to wait and see.

Having seen a couple of the first shows filmed, I knew they hadn't messed it too much (other than the reduced prize board).

Hello everyone!! I don’t know if anybody remembers me but I used to post on here in the old days during the 2007-2010 era. In those days we had to post on an actual computer - now it’s just on the phone! :D How lovely for this forum to be able to live again! :D

Well. Have to say, I really enjoyed today. I love that the old music is back, banker theme, thinking music, the set looks new and yet feels the same, the camerawork feels the same (how innovative was that style first time round in retrospect?) and despite my reservations I thought Stephen Mulhurn was actually very good in the role.
The lower board amounts definitely lower the stakes though. It didn’t start feeling proper exciting till the second half of the game so I hope they look at raising the prize money up a bit in future series.
Interesting addition of the extra offer. It gives both player and Banker an extra lifeline. Would have been a spanking today without it but I’m sure there will be games where it massively helps the player to win outright.

On the whole, I love having the show back. I hope to be able to post on here regularly. H2005 - there’s a blast from my past!

Good return, true to the spirit of the original and Stephen settled into it really well. We got a decent game to go with it as well, and a good outcome.

Only complaint would be the low early offers, as I suggested before I think there will be a lot of games that never see a “dealable” offer with the reduced top prize. Interesting to see one of the new red amounts in the player’s box on day 1, anyway!

Decent start as others have said, although I suspect a five-figure win will be relatively rare on this new board.

Perfect bubbly contestant for Stephen to bounce off in the first show - I'm not usually a fan of his particularly, but nice for him to have something of his own, rather than being in Ant and Dec's shadow or well-worn Catchphrase, that he can bring his own style to! :)

It's difficult to separate the old board structure from what materialises, as today would've been a pretty epic £30k win, and today just felt a bit less than that obviously... but then again, the definition of "life-changing" to some has changed dramatically since 2005, so if the majority of players find even high 4-figures a fulfilling win, then maybe it can work.

I guess before, it was special giving away potentially £250k in daytime (unheard of even), whereas now it'll just blend, at least pay-out wise, into what the Tenable's/Tipping Point's/Chase's/Lingo's give away on average, and the worry is all those shows are already successful for ITV...

If it has been the old board though she would have had higher valued boxes in play when she dealt so would have likely have been a higher offer

I don't know what it is but I just can't abide the host, seems to get his gib on every ITV show nowadays. Not sure who could have done it though. There definitely doesn't seem to be as much drama as when Noel did it. Early days I guess and I'll stick with it, for now, albeit via ITVX as it avoids the annoying adverts
