Well if you are going to offer above the mean in proveout, you ought to be offering it sometimes in live play (even if it makes it such an easy decision).

This Banker needs to learn a bit of maths, and he could probably have got her out of there with an offer of £1,000 on that pair, never mind the average!

I had a feeling she was going to be the inaugural member of the new 1p club when it started to fall apart (1p and 5 reds, it would have been typical…) but I think anyone rational would have taken that deal. Rather than no-dealing it, you’d have much better odds taking the £2,400 to the casino and putting it on the roulette wheel.

Bonkers final offer obviously, there seems to be too concerted an effort from production to make the game feel good even if it should be an inevitable trainwreck... It's Deal, but not as we know it, there doesn't seem to be great deal of nuance to the banker's 'tactics' in the latter parts of games, and that was largely where the intrigue lay.

Mulhern is still making it quite watchable though, which was a surprise to me.

P.S I note that the winnings quoted at the start were £68,505, rather than the £68,460 that has actually been given away, so he can't even keep track of his accounts!

(I presume someone wrote £50 for one of the £5 wins accounting for the £45 difference!)

I'm glad Sophia went away with something of value, and up until the last minute it was an exciting rollecoaster of a game... so why did they have to ruin the tension entirely with that absurd 120% of the mean final offer? It's the one thing about this new version I'm really not a fan of.

No 151st member of the Juan P. Memorial Tribute Society, so that’s always a plus. That final offer was above the mean, and looked more like one of those bizarrely inflated proveout offers that this version has become synonymous with.

All you need to know about that final offer: on the C4 shows that's a 1p/£10k finish, and that might not have produced a £2,400 offer if the Banker felt vindictive enough!

It does feel like this revival has an identity crisis, not knowing how to balance its different elements (to which a revival inherently adds the tricky nostalgia factor) - to be fair I think the original run had that during and after the late-00s financial crisis, Noel almost seemingly battling in real time to work out how or if he should change his style after two years of being so determined to produce exciting television that he interfered with the game. With those two years being the ones that most people watched and probably that most remember now, they've cast a long shadow over all DoND since, and Archie's comment live of "Stephen gives Sophia his full respect for going on" shows that shadow is still very much there.

It's still DoND, it still brings excitement from the interaction of player and board as we learn more about each, but exactly what DoND in the mid-2020s should be like is a question the show will need to find an answer to if and when it's renewed.

Had Sophia dealt any offer prior to the 2 box AMO, I wonder how many people would be crying that The Banker was over inflating the proveout offer?...
