Was that “1p” Trevor?

That'll be the one - dreamed of going to Australia, leaving money for his grandchildren, turned down £9,900 penultimate offer on the basis that it could get him to Oz but he wouldn't have anything left to give the kids...one box-opening away from paradise, but it wasn't to be.

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

...and Doug May, who won £75,000 in March 2007 but had his benefit payments stopped as a result, apparently passed away in the autumn of 2012. He'd have been 82. It's a very strange rule that if you suddenly have more than X amount, you have to make yourself destitute before you're eligible for benefits again. This was under a Labour government too! :|

I'm absolutely delighted to report that John Mobey, which played on 4 September 2007, appears to have died in spring 2012.
Yes, that was very much deliberate.

Just a note to record that Dilys (7 November 2005) died in 2022, aged 86. She was a great player and seemed to be a lovely person from what we saw of her on the show. :)

And also recording the passing of Rob Appleyard, who played on 13 December 2005 and won £10,000. He was clearly a very good man.

Hardly a legend here, but it appears that Danny Edwards, from Manchester, whose show in August 2013 was never broadcast, died about a year ago, in his mid-thirties. There is a record on the General Register Office website which corroborates this (quarter three of 2023, year of birth 1989) and in the following discussion on Reddit it was stated that he had died by suicide.

It seems, however, that this was not a case of tragic loss.

Sounds like that guy had A LOT of issues. Didn't his game get pulled, and they showed a repeat of Olly Murs' celebrity game in it's place because he went into GenPop on the day of his game, or something?

Very sad to hear, VERY underrated character and game from the early days of the show :(

Him and "Dutchess" Helen who played that same week had 2 of the best turnaround games ever at the time!!

Yeah, I didn't know anything about him until I was scrolling through the show archives, saw that a game hadn't been aired and had a look into it! Quite a...character...from what I gather, he was in and out of prison and locally notorious with it. :smt011

His was one of the games that came too early for me to have seen it at the time, but having watched it a few months back for the first time, I can only agree! He was brilliant.

(Not quite verbatim)

'The offer's £11,000'
'You know, he's - he's fallen short of my expectations there, really---'
'How come?'
'Well, I'd have thought he would have made it a little bit higher, you know, to make me really have a, a quandary - but he's just made it easy, hasn't he? It boils down to a question of, do I want to take £11,000 on the chance I might have £10,000 there, or do I gamble £1,000, to potentially win £4,000? I'm ready, Noel...'
