If you were a contestant would you use a system for box opening or be more random in your selection? If you used a system what would it be?

I would randomly choose numbers before I went on the show, make a list of them, and then use that in my game and not deviate from it at all!

Quite how I'd choose the numbers in the first place I'm unsure - I may use a computer method (e.g. Excel) or I may just number some pieces of paper and pull them out of a bag.

What I do know though is that I would definitely have a pre-selected system, so I couldn't have any feelings about "Oh if only I'd chosen that box on the day", and I'd also know for sure what values I'd have taken out in proveout (if I dealt!).

My system's changed quite a bit from the last time I described it... It's designed so that the order I pick the boxes in is laid out when everybody picks their box.

I'd start by choosing 1 if it's in position W1, 2 if it's position W2 and so on. If there's none in the positions then it would go in reverse, ie. 1 in E11, 2 in E10. If there's more than 1 then I'd choose my least favourite box out of the ones I can go for.

When the amount's revealed, I'd then look at all the positions where that amount has come to the table from, and then pick my least favourite box out of them, so if the first amount I took out was £35,000, I could pick the box out of W2, W3, W4, W5, W8, W10, W11, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E10 and E11.

I'd then find out who had the same final two as the last two amounts I picked out, and choose my least favourite box out of them, so if the next one was... 50p, the only person who had that finish was Shahid, so I'd pick the box in E7 where he stood.

If there's no positions left where someone has had the final two then I'd go to a position where people have carried out both of the last two amounts I picked.

It's quite hard to describe...

Alphabetical boxes, either that or a random system.

My numbers would be chosen randomly before the game.

I wouldn't trust Excel to pick my nose let alone random numbers for DOND so numbers on paper in a bag for me probably.

I'd definitely pick 19, 5, 3, 15, and 22 in my first round. From there, I'd pick randomly, leaving Box 1 to the end and, unless my gut tells me otherwise, swapping for it. Usually 7, 11, and 21 make it far in my games also, though I don't plan for it to happen.
Anyways, no, I wouldn't have a system for the entire game.

I'd have a system and not deviate from it, otherwise I'd take about 4 hours to choose the numbers. I'm very indecisive. I'd also leave 5 until the end, as it's my number.

I'm not sure.

I most probably wouldn't use a system and only keep a couple of special of numbers, but then if I didn't take a system I think i'd struggle over what boxes to open and then end up changing my mind and finding the big amounts.

I might ask who had the power 5 amounts the day before and choose them people during the opening round, in the hope they haven't got a power 5 amount again.

If anyone watched my game they would know my system, if not......I had all my close family round (7 of us)..put bingo balls in a bag and each one of us chose a number which I wrote down. This system I stuck to!
After watching many dond shows, I felt I didnt want to pick birthdays and the like because I felt if, say, my daughters birthday had the £250k in she would be upset........also I felt I wouldnt have to stand there and dither over which number next, having preselected numbers made sitting in the chair much more relaxed.
And as you may already know..my numbers were terrific...I walked away with £70k.....and in a way a shame because my last number picked had the £250k....oh how I wish I could have been showered in confetti,
But dont get me wrong...I am soooooo happy!

I'd keep numbers that are special to me to the end and do the rest in any random order really...

the only system i would use is a good memory and depending on the last few games that day,
leave 4, 14, and 10 out of the 22 these have the power five in time and time again

No particular system, apart from keeping my special numbers (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 14) and getting rid of 22 first.

Yes I would use a system or more to the point an order of choosing numbers. It would be a mix of birthdays and then odd and even numbers. Say I'd picked box 10 at random, here's how I'd pick the boxes:

Round 1 - Birthdays

3
20
4
5
8

Round 2 - Birthdays

21
14
13

Round 3 - Birthdays

6
12
2

Round 4 - Birthdays

1
7
9

Round 5 - Descending even numbers

22
18
16

Round 6 - Ascending odd numbers

11
15
17

Last 2 Boxes

10 (My box)
19

They don't always let you use a system - I think they prefer it if people don't.

When I was there I know of four people who wanted to use systems and they were not allowed - myself included.

Interestingly if I had used my system (which was just the way the numbers had been picked in my pub) then I would have got to 8 box with both the 100k and the 250k - whcih would have been nice.

It also might have meant I would not have been such a divvy in the chair cause I was so thrown that was why I kept saying "all I see is boxes! .

Weird how you wasn't allowed!

I would keep some numbers til the latter stages because they have some sort of meaning to me:

2, 9, 19, 20, 21, 22

2 because it is my lucky number, and it would be the ONLY exception I would consider swapping for at the end.

9 because I am the only person I know that doesn't write the number nine on paper with a stick like, i do curly ones like the computer font does

19 because that's how old I was when I applied to be on Deal.

20 because that's how old I am now.

21 because that's how old I'll probably be if I ever get on!

22 beause once upon a time it was almost guaranteed to have a huge amount in when brought to the table and I would always be wary with it!

Nice to see someone else who does their 9s like the computer font (and the 9 on the box)!

Having thought about it, I would probably only keep 2, 11, 12 and 14 to the end as they mean the most to me.
