I found some old DOND recordings on an old tape, from around November 2005, and I observed the following chanegs that have been made since then...

Noel's microphone seems to be clearer and louder
The phone was raised
The phone's black, plastic coily cord was replaced with a brown, cloth cord
The lights over the "status board" seem to be dimmer
Plus small changes to the wording on the viewer's competition caption thing

And then there's the obvious...

Colouring of the amounts in the boxes
3D amounts etc.

It's not often that a programme makes subtle changes, they normally decide on something in the first place and stick with it. I think it's actually quite nice that there have been subtle changes, it sort of fits in with the fact that the show isn't flashy and loud like some other game shows, and it shows that C4 / Endemol are experimenting.

And, of course, the banker's offers have become lower - in a proveout round from December, the bloke playing would have been offered £160k, with £75k and £250k left... think about Kirsty (although she hadn't already dealt)... she was "only" offered £125k in the same position!

In the first round of the first episode ever, I remember everyone gasping when the £5k was revealed, and Noel saying, "Oh, no! The 5,000's gone!", despite that being the only red to be revealed, when nowadays, £5k is often described by Noel as an "honorary blue".

Yet, in Jennifer's game, with the £750, £100k and £250k, everyone cheered when the £100k was revealed. Nowadays, it would be more like Noel saying, "We don't want to see the £100k! Reveal the £750!... No! £100k! Oooooohhhhh, dearum, dearum, it's alright, it's not disastrous, etc., etc."

Oh, and another thing, the phone's ringing noise was changed at some point to make it louder and deeper and sound more menacing and important with the banker on the other end of the line!

I'm not so sure about the phone's cord, though! :?

In case you don't know already, "that woman" is BrainTeaser host Alex Lovell, whose voice can still be heard saying:

Calls cost one pound with BT. Successful callers will be asked to leave their contact details. Not all calls will be successful but all calls will be charged.

Another difference is the lights by the players, it can change colour now (like it changes to red when the banker phones, and it's often a different colour on special days like Easter).

I remember though a player called Shell had an all blue opening round - and was offered around £6,000. When Aaron had his all blue opening round, he was offered £15,000. Proves the offers have changed not down but up as well.

Also, when something bad has happened, in the first ever episode (on youtube) some Japanese piano music started playing but now if that happens, it plays more general piano music.

They've developed annoying little rituals, like hand holding and chanting 'Blue, blue blue blue' its getting a bit like a cult.

Since October, more people (I must say of annoyance to me for some reason) have signed up to this forum.

Fortunately, something that hasn't changed is when my wang goes into overdrive when I hear the name ANDY KELLY.

well the only thing that has changed for me regarding deal or no deal is i am more obsessed than ever, can't comment on Daves site as of course not being a contestant have not and unless a miracle happens will never be allowed in past the first page. However its cool of him to provide somewhere for the contestants to escape to where they cannot be flamed or have to take silly remarks from us plebs on the outside. Doing the photographs I notice when it gets near a players time they seem to get more screen shots, between box openings, I wonder if this is to burn them in our minds so we relate to them better when they sit in the hot seat?

They crank up the coverage as you get closer to build your "character" and get the viewers looking forward to seeing you play. Very skillfully done

I think that the background music has changed slightly since October.

I have also noticed that the amounts now seem to raised slightly from the boxes? Done to give it that 3d effect I would assume.

For example, I believe Wayne gained his nickname "Wayne the Brain" only a few days before he played. However, I think that was during double week, so it may have been six shows shown over a few days, which would of course have been six days normally... oh, you know what I mean! :-D

Yeah we didn't see much of Wayne in his first couple of weeks, and then he developed as one of the characters in his final week or so, and that's true for a lot of contestants. But there are others who are noticeable from their very first show, and some who appear to say very little until their actual game.

Editing obviously plays a large part, and also I guess some contestants feel more confident speaking out/giving advice etc. once they've been there a while.

The phone had a brown cord from show one.

In the first 2 shows, none of the players came down to crowd round the player at the end of the game. That was introduced in show 3.

In the early shows, banging on the wings (!) wasn't allowed because of sound problems. Contestants were told not to make that noise. Also the board graphics were awful; ver fuzzy compared with now. And very early players were reminded that it was Noel's show.

Not only has the lighting changed during the banker etc and intro with the colour wash but also the actual spotlighting etc is also not so intense (which is better). I also noticed today the stedicam appeared as if it wasnt used and the camara wasnt able to go upstairs (hope its only temporary).
