Looking at it from a purely statistical/percentage point, what, in your opinion, constitutes a generous offer on any board?

With Brian yesterday, when £29,000 appeared, my first thought was it was an extremely good offer, as I was expecting a drop, or if it was an increase, £26k at most. However, after reading everybody's points/opinions/moans/rants/whines, it seems it wasn't the best offer in the world :D (though it could have been worse)

It was 55% of the mean according to the Today's show thread. I wouldn't have taken it, but my immediate thought is any offer above half of the mean is a decent offer.

However, feel free to disagree :D .....

It's more complicated than that - depends on board volatility.

David W's 25K offer on 250K/peanuts that was generous but only 49.3% of the mean.

Yes, the mean of the offer is something to take into account, but the overall state of the board and how many backups there are is likely to affect the perceived generosity of an offer too.

As alexandercbrown pointed out, an offer of £25k on a 4 blues and £250k board is low in terms of the mean, but generous in terms of the board, so most would deal it.

However, if it was four low reds and £250k with an offer of £25k, it'd still be low in terms of mean but less generous in terms of the board and I think most people would no deal it, especially with backups of £1k / £3k / £5k / £10k etc...

The banker isn't usually that generous these days but Noel/Audience/Wings/Banker make the amount offered seem much more generous than it is.

Isn't it also the case that the banker will take into account the player? therefore a stronger/more determined player will get a higher offer? I personally think the banker's been more than generous on a few occasions recently.

The Fair Deal (FD) is, I believe, a really useful statistical measure of the strength of the board. Unfortunately it suffers the drawback of being pretty much impossible to calculate -- or even estimate -- in your head.
