Contestants seem to have different approaches in how they handle the banker.
What works and what doesn't?

Is it better to let him think you are a Wakeyist gambler who's there to play the game and go all the way,
or treat him with contempt, maybe flatter him, or just show a healthy respect?

Is it good to let him know what your target is if you have one?

All of these can go wrong to a certain extent!

"Make him think you will go all the way" - I wouldn't do that as I'd risk getting swaps or rubbish offers...

"With respect" - most likely, as it's not too flattering but not too dismissive

"Flatter him to get good offers" - unlikely, as he'd probably see through me and make joke offers

"With disdain, make it clear you don't like him" - certainly not... as he'd most likely react with poor offers

"Let him know your target" - I probably wouldn't really have a target. But if I did, I certainly wouldn't let him know what it was, as he'd use all the psychological tactics under the sun to try and make me deal offers which were pretty rubbish... :?

The best thing to do is be yourself. The Banker likes honestly (so he says) and if you pretend to be a gambler or try and flatter him, the chances are it'll backfire on you and he'll see through your act.

If it was me, I would try and not give too much info away to the Banker about what I'd plan to do in my game. I wouldn't deliberately go out of my to annoy him, but I would neither pretend to flatter him either, as he would no doubt see through the facade and make even lower offers.

So i'd respect the Banker and his offers and basically i'd try and get along with him and just have a laugh.

Treat him with respect. If I talked to him, my ending quote would be something like, "May the best man win."

I'd be trying to take all the offers seriously but without overly dithering whereby he would know he could get you cheaply next time round even if you no-dealt. :)

Present myself as an analytical player who won't go cheaply.

Sort of a subtler variation on the faux-Wakeyism. Basically I'd want to be like Aaron, except I'd actually take the £30k. :)

I would certainly respect the Banker.

But I would try to give as little as possible away. No targets, no tat, no family, no friends. Also the hotel seems to be a treasure trove of information for the Banker so I would not be blabbing to fellow contestants about what I'm going to spend £x on whatever.

The less he knows about you the stronger your position. But ultimately it all boils down to how the boxes open.

I'd be honest and say my opinions on offer generosity on the wings.

I wouldn't bullsh*t about chasing the QM but I'd be there to take calculated risks if the offers are average/low and/or the board is good and wouldn't play with a target.

If the banker insulted me with poor offers i'd be prepared to win a blue so I hope he'd respect that.

but try and keep quiet overall.

I would keep telling him, "No matter what your offer is, i'll still go al the way. Hint hint!" :-D

My approach would be similar to KP- I'd look at the board based on the odds and then assess whether the offer was fair or not. I would try and not give too much away, and respect the banker, but no more than that.

I don't know what I'd do. I could pretend to be a big dealer, and then panic him when I turn down dealer's offers.

I could be honest.

I could pretend to be a No Dealer and go at a good offer...

There's so much to choose from!
