There was another thread somewhere for C4 viewing figures for DOND, but it's ancient now (I think I set it up actually)... but I was just wondering (I'm sure Billy can help me out here  ) - how are the figures doing compared to this time last year?

I'd assume you'd expect them to be higher now, as the show has gradually become more and more popular over time.

Also, is there a noticeable difference after "events"? Events such as Laura's £250k win show (could attract / detract viewers), Craig's 3 swaps show (could detract viewers) Bunney's game (could attract viewers) and Richard's show (the banker's tactics in this show could detract viewers).

What is just as relevant is the audience share - how is DOND doing in that respect?

Also, have the Sunday shows got better? I believe at first they weren't doing too badly (better than the Saturday shows, anyway), but aren't they doing worse now DOND is in an earlier slot on Sundays?

The latest viewing figures available on BARB are for the week ending 4th February, and they range from 3.16 to 3.78 million (although if you don't include the Friday episode then the lowest rated was 'only' 3.52). That time last year (week ending 5th February 2006) there was a range of 3.37 to 3.74.

The Sunday shows seem to be doing well again right now. For months they were the lowest rated, but looking at recent figures they're rating about somewhere in the middle. Certainly it was a good idea to move them from Saturdays as ratings jumped from 2 million to 3 million when they did.

Whether or not 'events' tend to show in the ratings vary. The shows just before and after Laura got massive ratings, Laura's week in fact being the highest rated week in the show's history. But looking at overnight figures on channel4sales.com, ratings seem to have suddenly dropped from about 3.3 million to 3.0 million after Richard's game...could this be because of his controversial offer?

(I know audience share also plays an important part, but I'm unaware how to find that information)

I hear that the viewing figures for DOND (source: Billy  ) are starting to go down. :? The overnight figures were averaging at 3.3 million until Richard's game, after which they suddenly plummeted to 3 million, and now the highest rated game since Mary's on Friday 16th which pulled in 3.21 million is... Tuesday's with 2.96 million... meaning that no episodes since Friday have pulled in more than 3 million viewers! :?

As Billy rightly points out, the figures this time last year started to increase!

Is it possible that the banker's tactics in Richard's game really did put people off watching? Are the extra gimmicks (admittedly there have been fewer lately) putting people off? Or is it Noel's attitude? Or something else?

I don't think Noel has a bad attitude its all edited remember and having been there five times I know how much he does support each player, even the newbies he goes over and has a chat to before filming starts, and I haven't heard more than one contestant complain about Noel

I also believe it's down to the editing and / or Endemol telling him what to do, rather than him wanting to do it himself. Whatever is making him do it, it's giving him a bad light and he should do his best to try and make Endemol edit the shows differently, or he should tell them he doesn't want to encourage people for no dealing and make them feel guilty for dealing!

I think seeming the players don't get offended they are the ones that matter most, if they get offended different ball game, I don't think Endemol would dare tell Noel how to behave to be honest, and i'm sure its just general patter

According to channel4sales.com, Thursday's episode of DOND achieved 3.08 million - the first "over 3 million" episode of that week. It seems very odd that the show should lose a substantial number of viewers for the first half of last week, then they come back in the latter half! I wonder where they all were?!

Compare that to 4m for the first two post-Laura shows!

A quarter of an audience lost, 22 identical foolish gamblers and no questions except one... Noel or No Noel?

I think there's been a mistake on channel4sales.com, as it says Friday's episode and Saturday's repeat of £100k Gaz's games both got 1.08 million viewers each! Saturday's repeat may have got 1.08 million, but I'd expect Friday's game to be more around the 3 million mark! Yesterday's overnight figure is 2.62 million, which isn't at all bad, compared to recent ratings, especially for a Sunday, which have not been doing so well as the weekday episodes in terms of ratings. It still baffles me how DOND seems to lose and gain about 300,000 viewers from day to day sometimes. :? I suppose it must just be non-regular viewers who sometimes tune in and sometimes don't...

Yesterday's ratings will have taken a hit from the twelve minutes of added time in the Carling Cup final. If it weren't for that, DoND would have started just after the final whistle - as it is, those flicking between the football and Deal would have missed at least the opening round.

And so it proved with the relatively disappointing 2.78 million for a Sunday show. Today's Sunday show 11th March started not longer after the England France rugby match had finished, the question is whether people switched over to DOND after the post match analysis.

Couldn't find another thread on viewing figures, which is why I'm bumping this one. :?

Not sure if Channel4sales.com have made a mistake with their viewing figures, but DOND's seem unusually low for the past week:

Friday 2nd - 2.29m
Saturday 3rd - 1.3m
Monday 5th - 1.88m
Tuesday 6th - 2.13m
Wednesday 7th - 1.98m
Thursday - 1.89m

The C4 (and indeed BARB) viewing figures normally show them being between over 2 million (nearer 3).

Nice weather gets people outside doing things.

I've recorded several shows this last week or so week and watched them later. There will be a a vast core of casual viewers who probably won't bother too much if they miss a show or two.

You need to look at the percentage audience share, not the number of viewers, particularly when it's sunny.

I don't have all the figures but I can tell you the share on Monday and Tuesday peaked at near 30%. That's huge.

The sunny weather meant that last week less than 6 million people watched TV in DoND slot. It's usually closer to ten million. That's why industry people never quote the numbers without the percentage.
