YouTube has recently been hit by another C&D frenzy from Endemol...and with the Pictures section taken down on here, it's made me pluck up the stones to at least make some very good points.

If nobody is allowed to post videos, clips or even images of the show, can't the producers like make it possible for us avid fans to be able to recap on past shows a bit more easier, e.g. make past shows available to watch, even if it was just the "Hall of Fame" ones...coz the chances are, most of them will never be seen again! If we could have something like this, there's be very little need for images and clips etc.

Yes, their YouTube account has decent vids, but very scarce in terms of supply.

I can completely understand that Endemol don't like their stuff being copied or pirated, but it'd at least be grateful if they could supply us with more quality merchandise, as well as access to some of the past shows officially.

Coz if they keep going on C&D riots, then all we'll literally have to remember the show are the show commentaries on here and the ilovedealornodeal website, which is only ever going to be the last part of each show due to bandwidth :(

If only, ay? :(

Totally agreed. They're making crappy games, when we're making better ones, and they're taking it down. Sorry, I need they need to step back. It's not like we're trying to use them against you or something... :blueponder

Much Ado about Nothing. Pictures section, removed. Why did we use that? It was handy for people to get digital memorabilia for the show. DAWND's uploaded music, removed. Why did we use that? Because we can't find it anywhyere else. Our own videos, removed. Why did we use them? They're a lot better than the ones you're uploading, that's why. Our memories of the show are different to the ones of the general public, and we should have an equal say.

Upload the show's soundtrack, release a few full-length videos, release a fortnightly magazine or anything. Make it seem understandable that you're removing the media you have made available to us.

It isn't even that - they should surely understand that we love the show and would love something back worth while. As much as the clips on YouTube are appreciated, there's not much else... :?

It is a shame that Endemol have threatened to take action on some of the content on this site as well as content on other sites. The problem is that they are entitled to. They can't stop us discussing what we see on TV, but they can stop images being posted online which is against the law as the images are ultimately Copyright Endemol / Channel 4.

The problem is the lack of demand for official extra merchandise. Most of the viewers of DOND watch the show regularly but probably don't care about seeing classic repeats or downloading the full soundtrack. I doubt they'd release the full soundtrack without whacking a price tag on it, and it just wouldn't be financially profitable for them if they did so as they would sell very few (some people on this forum may want it but forum members represent an extremely small proportion of the viewing public). This is probably why the book which accompanied the first series ended up in bargain bins in cheap bookshops and there was never a 2nd book released.

As regards to classic shows, I'm quite sure their argument would be that services such as 4OD provide an opportunity for this - you can watch the shows for free up to 30 days after airing and then I believe you can pay per view to see older ones, and they would probably say their Youtube videos adequately serve most people's needs. Most forum members aren't "most people" though, so will undoubtedly want more.

Whilst the internet has moved on in terms of what it has to offer with videos, screenshots etc., the copyright laws have not changed one bit in most circumstances. So if you want to have memories of DOND, then my advice would be to record the shows you want to see again - either by recording it off C4 at 4:15 or from C4+1 / More 4 / More 4+1 if you can get them. That way you can be sure you have a record of the show you love, without any worries about Endemol trying to take your videos away.

I was absolutely gutted that the threads in the picture section were deleted... Particularly after the work everyone put in. Are we allowed to post pictures on the official site then, because we could use that site for pictures and this one for everything else. It would be quite cool if they merged the two sites together, but it won't happen so this forum will remain better. The videos Endemol do and put on youtube are total crap; they consist of people sayinh good luck and then opening a box. The hall of fame videos on www.channel4.com/deal are brilliant, and I watch them a hell of a lot more that I do the others. It's childish Endemol. It's free advertising by HUGE fans of the show.

Not particularly fascinating, but that's exactly what I've done from day one - kept the classic episodes and significant changes in the show for personal reference. Probably got about 60 episodes in the archive now, some illustrious contestants in that lot, I can tell you!

(I might be able to provide a list later)

That's what i've started to do from this year and i've currently got every episode from 2008, minus Deano's and the majority of Emjay's. I will have to sort them as i've got 50 odd DVDs lying around and just keep the more interesting games of 2008. As I doubt i'm actually going to watch half them again.

I also discovered a load of old episodes on VHS which I have been gradaully burning onto DVD, such as the original screening of Laura's game and the 1st Birthday show. I only wish I had been recording them from the start and kept the classics, but I only started when I got a DVD recorder at the start of the year.

It's been interesting watching some of the older shows I found and comparing them to now. I suspect i'll watch a few during the DOND summer break.

If Endemol are having a Youtube C&D on DOND clips, shouldn't they do the same for Big Brother - or is it a case that it would be too time-consuming to try and take down every BB clip on there - whereas the number of DOND clips is more manageable?

Big Brother I guess is aimed at a more worldwide audience if that makes sense?

That said, stentionhaus is one of the most popular users on all of YouTube for its devotion to uploading pretty much everything Big Brother UK related. The fact that that account has won awards for most subscripted etc, tells you there hasn't been anything C&D related to that site, which is a shame for other Endemol projects like Deal or No Deal.

Ah well!
