After Marianne's 1p win yesterday wouldn't it be better to avoid that situation happening
on Christmas Day again by having a win-win format of all 22 boxes being red numbers?
It would be more honoring to the Christmas star contestants, and guarantee
a feelgood factor for the festive season.

Imagine 22 boxes like this:

£1,000 £20,000
£2,000 £25,000
£3,000 £30,000
£4,000 £35,000
£5,000 £40,000
£6,000 £45,000
£7,000 £50,000
£8,000 £60,000
£9,000 £75,000
£10,000 £100,000
£15,000 £250,000

The board you suggested, are you somebody else in disguise? ;)

I cannot see that working as they're getting their special rewards and Christmas Star award regardless on how much they win. The money won on the show is basically a bonus and at least they are playing the game with the regular board and rules.

Although Channel 4 don't do anything spectacular on Christmas Day. Deal or No Deal was the most watched on the channel yesterday. 1.71m (11.5%) and was the 29th most watched programme on Christmas Day.

Mad Mark has broken into Rico's account, Travis! :P

I do kinda agree, as it's awful for people to be nominated to come on the show and play...only to win very little. But at the same time, it is still a normal game of Deal or No Deal, and therefore the board shouldn't be tampered with.

Rico, you win the thread. That is the board that should be used for EVERY episode of DoND, IMO. Low wins have no place on television, and with this board, even if you ended up with £1,000 at the end, that's still money that you can actually do something with, unlike something useless like 1p. Remember, to me, it's less about who they are, and more about what they win.

With a guaranteed £1,000, you might as well have a first round of 11 boxes.

Of course the board shouldn't be changed just because it's Christmas. The game is as gripping as it is purely because there's that real sense of jeopardy -- a real risk of it all completely crashing down to virtually nothing. The Christmas Stars get all those bonus gifts no matter what happens in their game, which will guarantee an upbeat ending to those shows no matter what.

Money is more important than people? Is that what you're saying, because if so I emphatically disagree.

If that board were to be introduced, there isn't as much of a risk element as they are guaranteed £1,000, and the risk element is important in this show

I'm actually very proud of these responses!

Although personally, I like James1978's idea that the board is less blue-heavy to moderate the element of jeopardy without removing it. That, however, should be for all shows.

I don't believe the 22 financial amounts have to be cast in stone, don't forget
the change made to the Millionaire board that eliminates most of the risk
of going home with nothing, and increases the chance of winning £50,000 or more.
Also, I'm surprised that the 71K win wasn't shown on Christmas Day. You'd think
they would have sandwiched it in between the two blue wins.

The Christmas Star wotnot didn't work for me at all. I lost interest. The great thing about the show is us getting to know the contestants nearly as well as they know each other and waiting for certain games to occur because we like/fancy/are interested in certain players. Suddenly to have games involving complete strangers made the whole thing rather dull, imo, however much they deserved to win.

I disagree with that. We have a very mild and quite dull wing line-up at the moment, and on these shows everyone was full of life, which was nice to see. They were all still friends, but the atmosphere was a lot better and a lot more uplifting than these normal shows. :ponder:
