So we come to the end of another year of the show. What are people's opinions on the year, and what were the highlights/low points for you?

Overall, I think 2008 has been a pretty decent year for the show. Yes, there have been some bad moments, but I've found myself getting far more interested in games than I used to be which i can only think is a good thing. The year may have started off badly, but it certainly ended brilliantly.

Highlights:

End of April/May - Some great contestants and some great games. Betty and Tom P deserve a mention.
December - This last month has been amazing, especially the Christmas shows.
A good bunch of contestants at times.

Low Points:

That Deal in May
The Louise/Lance debacle.
The first week after the summer break.

Highs:

-M.J in January
-Gemma at Easter
-Peter's unique Walk of Wealth (inspiring)
-Betty
-Jay (Power Five gone in 5 straight boxes, yet wins the £20,000)
-The last six weeks of 2008 (Keran in November onwards - all big wins and great shows featured inbetween fall under this)

Lows:

-the 1p infestation in January, ultimately leading to a decline in the offers
-Richard and THAT deal in May
-the bad luck surrounding Summer (the end of season 3 and the start of season 4)
-in general, the decline in the offers and intention to buy the box

High point was definitely Clive's game way back in January. It's probably the most I've laughed at anything during the whole of 2008.

Oh yes, at least somebody remembered Clive. Don't forget that brand new ingenious Banker offer delivery system...

A post-it!

I know we've had the tense wins in recent weeks but that game made me laughed so much within 45 mins.

I'm a fan of facts so love it when the £3000 and £250k are players in the final round (as they were Laura's last two)

It's been a good year for a long stint of £250k being wiped out in the first round; but by December it was hanging around til the end in lots of games.

Highs

Jay's power 5 demise and 8 reds in a row
Lee's 0p
Ladies of a certain age like Constance and Eunice
Betty for being BRAVE!
Ada @ 95 years old the oldest DONDer

Lows

No £250k winner
Contestants saying: "It's okay"
Noel saying: "You do like your reds"

Well, a lot has happened but these are my highlights:

Highs

Gemma winning a Power Five that didn't happen since October :)
Betty's £100k win, which will down as a classic :D
Keran's £75k win that followed after revealing 9 blues, which deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame
Clive's game, need I say more?
Greame's game, that Noel lookalike episode was brilliant :-D
And the Christmas period, with Ellen's £75k, Lauren's £100k and Ian's £71k deal :D

Lows

The players who joined the 1p Club, such as Katie, Shaun, Matty and a few others...
Richard and £23k Mike dealing such horrible offers
The Louise/Lance debate :smt009 :smt011
The "Unlucky" Era which lasted nearly the whole year
And the players who threw away the biggie which was Kate, Justin, Nicola, Matt, Jo-Jo, Louise, Lance, Roy, Melanie, Martin, Andy and Tolleck

If you add those QM squanders altogether, and it shows that £3 Million was thrown away between them!!!

I have another high and low

HIGH

Stan the man, what a great guy!

LOWS

Contestants seemed to have been told to keep their box open for ten seconds; and it all seems a bit awkward as they re-lift it after kissing/punching the air/whatever and then the eyes follow the cameraman to make sure they don't close too early. Editing should sort this out as it looks scrappy!

Clive's hilarity is a definite high point; the general decline in Wakeyist bullying is an even bigger one; Betty's win, not least because it came from an unlikely but not unjustifiable gamble, is another.

Lows include mysterious decisions, most of them Deals as has been excessively well accounted for already (at least if the mysterious decisions are No Deals it's tension-packed whether you're cheering the player or cheering for a trainwreck!); Matty's 1p game was possibly the most painful 1p win since Trevor's; worst of all, though, is that Clive didn't really replace Noel ;)

Great minds think-alike hey? ;)

I forgot about the sob-stories, but I thought it was best to not mention them at all...

2008 contained many memorable moments, shows and contestants.... and for me in particular, the following were the most memorable (but not all of them were nice memories!):

  • Clive the farmer - one of the best shows ever!
  • Matty and his reaction to winning 1p - painful to watch :(
  • Eunice and her general craziness
  • Graham looking like Noel and the fun that went with it
  • Betty, Keran and Lauren's BIG wins
  • Richard, Louise and Lance's controversial deals
  • Brian and the whole "banker buying the mug" thing
  • Constance for simply being entertaining...
  • Charles for being so posh
  • Les's game with the unexpected no deal which unfortunately resulted in a blue win
  • Billy's nerve-wracking game
