I think I've sussed out the general idea of what exactly Wakeyism is, but wanted to ask, if forum rules allow, why exactly was he banned? If I understand it correctly he believed in playing on to the end, which is fair enough but sort of defeats the object of the game as defined in the title, but is that the only reason he was banned? I'm assuming probably not. And wont he be able to still look at the forum, or even come back under a different user name. In fact, he may be with us right now. :smt105

I'm not entirely sure why some people like to use the term "Wakeyism" as it's a bit of an "in-house" phrase which confuses new people. So your queries are entirely valid!

The original member in question (wakey1512) was banned nearly 3 years ago for consistently being rude and aggressive in his postings about the show. He had a seemingly total disregard for other people's opinions, and would frequently label a player as being an "idiot" (or worse!), as well as frequently insulting other forum members who didn't share his opinion. So kestral made the decision to ban him, after giving him several warnings (which he ignored).

I hope you can see therefore that he wasn't banned simply for 'believing in playing to the end'!

(And he did make a few attempts to return, but was normally quickly sussed out and eventually gave up.)

Well not quite...he is still among us, albeit as a very-occasional poster (thundercat) - I guess he grew up and realised his choice of vocabulary to derise a decision made on the show was so harsh...just wish the other two Muskateers also grew up in that sense!

Indeed, we've been aware for quite some time now that 'thundercat' is a member to keep an eye on, however that account has not been de-activated as it has not been mis-used yet. In fact, it doesn't seem to be used much at all, so it's nothing to worry about. The arguments which occurred during the days of 'wakey' are well and truly over!

There were three weren't there? Basicasic, SrWilson and redrum. Think they were all banned at the same time after one particular game thread got out of hand, but had been asking for it for a while...

Basicasic didn't have the excuse of youth, he was one of the more mature members, in terms of years at least - he actually talked some sense at times, but just wouldn't give up his aggressive pro-Wakeyistic postings and eventually got banned for it. I think SrWilson was generally considered the most unpleasant of the Wakeyists, he made very few posts that didn't involve aiming insults at someone.

For those three and Wakey himself, it wasn't their views themselves that eventually got them banned, it was the way they put them across, calling contestants cowards, idiots etc. for dealing, on the today's show thread of nearly every game where the contestant didn't take their box, including personal insults at contestants who were posting on the forum. I'm sure anyone who behaved like that would get the same treatment, whether it was aimed at people for dealing, no-dealing or something else!

I've come to the conclusion there are several disperate groups who like deal for different reasons. I think this is why Endemol give contestants what on the surface seems like quite conflicting advice on how to view the offers. For example to respect the offers, even when they don't statiscally seem enough winds up some viewers, but on the flipsside to casually dismiss an offer as if it isn't a lot of money could wind up a different set of viewers. Then there are the too cautious players that come under critisism as do the gung ho players from others- crucially usually when that gameplay goes wrong. On the other fansite, they dont seem to like the gimmicks like bankers gamble and the special weeks, but here there seems a bit more tolerance for endemol mixing things up a little, at least from time to time.

I dont think calling anyone an idiot on what is, in all respects, a random game makes any sense. You either have a big one in your box or not, and the picking of the other boxes to lead you to that box is so random that even to rely on probability is far from failsafe.
