Over the course of the summer break, I am going to provide several configurations from various game points, and asking you this question:

What is the lowest amount you would consider Dealing in this situation, and what is the lowest amount you would be certain of Dealing in this situation?

Eventually, I hope to take your responses to create a new multi-dimensional successor to the Dealometer - tentatively entitled "Player Profiling" - so be honest with what you would do!

There'll be, it is planned, four each day. You don't have to respond to them all, although your Player Profile will be more accurate if you do respond to most of them :)

Other situations: 5-8 | 9-12

Situation 1
1p
10p
50p

£100,000
£250,000

Regular play, three to open

Situation 2
£100
£750

£10,000
£15,000
£20,000
£35,000
£50,000
£250,000

Regular play, three to open

Situation 3
£1,000
£3,000
£5,000
£10,000
£15,000
£20,000
£35,000
£50,000

Regular play, three to open

Situation 4
1p
£75,000
Straight two-box showdown, no twists

Great idea!

1. Considering dealing £20,000 or more, definitely dealing £26,000 or more.
2. Considering dealing £26,000 or more, definitaly dealing £35,000 or more.
3. Considering dealing £14,000 or more, definitely dealing £17,000 or more.
4. Considering dealing £15,000 or more, definitely dealing £18,000 or more.

(If I'd dealt earlier then got #4 as a banker's gamble, I may be considering keeping the money if it's as low as £13,000 due to the endowment effect)!

Hmmm. If I was playing the game, I'd hope that the banker wouldn't make me "think" of an offer, as I like to take it as it comes. However, I will oblige:

1) Consider = £20,000. Definitely deal = £50,000
2) Consider = £30,000. Definitely deal = £45,000
3) Consider = £17,000. Definitely deal = £22,000
4) Consider = £18,000. Definitely deal = £26,000

1) Consider £35,000. Definitely deal at £50,000
2) Consider £25,000. Definitely deal at £40,000
3) Can't see myself dealing here with an average of nearly £17,500. Consider £15,000. Definitely deal at £20,001
4) Consider £15,000. Definitely deal at £20,000. And for the hell of it, if I'd have got the Banker's Gamble here, deal if I'd have dealt at less than £15,000.

For me, it all depends on what happens in the next round on each situation

Do you understand how the game even works? You choose whether or not to deal BEFORE any subsequent boxes are opened, not after! ;-)

Ha ha ha! This is brilliant! In fact, I don't understand why nobody has used this as a tactic before!

Noel: £20,000. Deal or no deal?
Player: I'll tell you later.

I DO understand how the game works, have you ever heard of teasing?

Anyways, for each situation, I always look for amounts that are 10% - 25% off the mean and deal them

This sounds like a great idea. I expect there's going to be some exaggerated decisions on the situations; but I'd like to know how players can be profiled, if only to know if a player's range of decisions tends to be fluid, or fixed.

1. Would consider any offer of at least £17,500, would certainly deal £30,000.
2. At least £20,000, would deal £40,000 for sure.
3. £12,500 to consider, £16,500 to ensure a deal.
4. £17,500 to consider, £25,000 to deal.

Ok, I'm going to do something a bit different just to be awkward! :P I'm going to see what my EV Calculator (explanation page!) recommends for the situations.

The first figure is set it appears to what a 'medium-risk' player would probably take (and closest to what I would consider I think), and the second figure is the Expected Value of the board, more towards what a high-risk player would take - so under the 'definite deal' category for me (or course, it's just a theory, others may disagree). I'll use the precise figures just for interest:

1. Considers: £34,016.30 Definite: £42,951.62
2. Considers: £29,197.54 Definite: £37,790.93
3. Considers: £14,334.63 Definite: £15,196.86 (interesting one)
4. £18,763.70 (gives the FD amount here as he are at 2-box; in reality, I think it would consider £15k and definitely deal £25k)

I would pretty much agree with it, although 3. you could easily get carried away with such a stable board and I might play on anything under 20k, even though taking 15k, as the calculator suggests, is probably the more prudent approach.
