I stopped watching DOND years ago, but recently i've caught the odd moment cos other people in the house watch it. Then I remembered I was a member of this forum and i'd just like to ask why the contestants no matter how much they've won or who they are bloody cry at the end of every show. Does DOND just accept emotional cripples/greedy people on to the show these days?

They cry if they haven't won enough, cry if they win 5 quid, cry if they've won alot (but they could of won more) cry before they start picking numbers at random.

It's really tedious and can someone explain it to me? Cheers!

A first post in almost seven years! Welcome back! :D :smt023

On topic, I think Endemol look for dramatic, over-emotional people, yes. I think the pre-requisite for being accepted onto such a show these days, after nine years, is that you must be very 'over-the-top' in everything you do, or otherwise very strange or unique. I see a lot of OTT emotion and hysteria on the show nowadays, which is one reason why I haven't committed to regular viewing again; I think it's been taken too far out of context. It's become something it is not and never was. The cultism is too much for me in 2014. You 'have' to cry, you 'have' to believe box 22 has £250,000 in it, you have to show contempt but - at the same time - reverence for and to Hugill (2006 ref ;) )...I'm with you, I think it's all rather tedious now. I think crying is just part of the charade they have to keep up with, really; it's become the norm, because the norm has become the exaggerated. :|

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

They're not the only ones crying their eyes out.

Your last post was July 2007 which, despite feeling really quite recent, was almost a third of my life ago. You horrible person, making me feel so old.

About the contestants crying, I think it's what they put in the tea. Noel never drinks the tea and therefore is never seen to shed a tear, so your answer lies there.

See you in 2021!

Although it's just a game, it can get quite emotional sometimes. I probably wouldn't cry if I were playing but because they have different types of people, some people naturally show their emotions more than others.

I'd cry if I won a blue.

I'd cry if I won a red.

I'd cry if The Banker was mean to me.

I'd cry if a box was opened.

I'd cry every time Noel mentioned Box 23.

Yeah, I'd cry.

My tear ducts have dried out and shrivelled up due to underuse...

No, just kidding. I chop onions.

And that is what is wrong with the game. Yes, emotions are a factor, but the show shouldn't be an all-out sobfest. This is why the emo musical genre was created, folks. I unfortunately had to produce an emo music radio show on a college station many moons ago, and let me tell you, I was glad when that semester was over.

But yeah, keep you emotions in check, regardless of what happens. Say as little as possible, as anything you say give the Banker leverage over you, and you don't want that.

It was absolute hell. The two presenters were nice, but their music was God-awful. I had to drown it out by listening to the music from whatever low-budget mp3 player I had at the time. At least my own show, the Thursday Digression, played more normal music (rock and related stuff).

Its a fair point about the crying. However it's hard to realise how intense the atmosphere can be unless you've played the game.

You can wait years to get to the studio thinking about the game.

Then you play allot of games in a short time in the wings living off the emotions of others.

Also you spend the evenings with the other players and their families in the hotel learning about their hopes and dreams.

So I think it's little wonder that even the most balanced person can get a little emotional after all that.

I an proud that I didn't cry on tv but I'm not ashamed to say I did cry later.
