Well, it took a while, but here's the final part of my series review: a quick run-through of the notable moments os Series 6.
(NOTE: This is written as I go along, so it's a bit brief)
AugustThe first month of the new series. A short month of shows, with nothing majorly new, just the same sort of average deals that Series 5 was full-of.
SeptemberGenerally considered the unluckiest month to play DOND, September didn't offer up much in the terms of spectacular games, with most people starting to think no-one would win more than 30k all season.
OctoberThese people were quickly proven wrong, when Marshall scooped 36.5k in a classic game that is often overlooked. Later in the month, spirits were raised by Alex's 88k win, but there was little signs of progress until Trick or Treat week, when Christopher won 100k, giving the show it's first six-figure win since Alice.
NovemberSadly, it seemed liked these games were just blips, as November carried on with very few games of interest. No real stand-out moments, but the fifth birthday celebrations at least provided a bit of pleasant nostalgia for those who missed the early days of the show. Frustrations were only furthered when Glenn dealt 44k on an all red board and missed out of the 250k, in a game that stands as one of the weekest deals of all time.
DecemberDecember carried on at a steady pace, until the Christmas specials, which started off poorly with three blue wins. But things picked up when Ant was called out on Christmas Day, and swapped for 75k in a totally unexpected win. The year concluded with some more average games, including some great turnarounds from Brian and Betty.
JanuaryJanuary saw Deal expand to an hour long slot, with new opening credits. A lot of people weren't satisfied with this change, and switched over to other shows. To be fair, they had good reason: the year began frustratingly with very few OPWs. Then, when hope seemed lost, along came Dale, who turned down 26k on an all-or-nothing board and won 100k. Would this be the turnaround at last?
FebruaryEarly signs were that it wouldn't be. The month began badly, and never really picked up the pace. Love Week didn't help matters, with only one OPW, but the following provided a nice OPW from Amy and great games from Dylan, Peter and Nick.
MarchMy birthday month began with a great OPW from Franca early on, which was followed by an extraordinary spell of £50 being on the table five games running. Archie's game was most likely the highlight of the rest of the month, which provided few OPWs, but plenty of memorable games nonetheless.
AprilAnother tough month for the show. It started off well with Paul's 20k OPW and Sophie's 46k win. Then things fell apart with the first ever run of four consecutive blue wins. Then came a frustrating period, with only one OPW (Anthony) and even then, many weren't happy due to the extra offers that allowed it.
MayThe frustration continued, as Al went for the 250k and failed, then the determined Debs bailed out 63k only to have the 250k. Then came the week that changed the course of the series: Banker's Birthday week. It started off badly, with Wilf and Michael's highly questionable deals, but then came Suzanne. Her game started averagely, then picked up pace as the blues fell and the Power 5's stayed, leaving her with the 100k/250k finish. Declining a massive 165k, she swapped and won the 250k! At first, signs of improvement were slow to show, but then came Kerry-Anne, who very questionably declined 140k, only to leave with 10k.
JuneJune was the month when the aftermath of Suzanne's game began to show. It began well with Sam's unexpected 100k win, which triggered a great week, with 4 OPWs. The month continued with Danni's underated 33.5k win, and Anthony's overated 20k win, which I guess was received so well due to his condition. And then another extraordinary game, with Gary going for the 75k, only to crash to 1k.
JulyThe final month for the show began with 2 OPWs, and a great win for Micole of 71k. The rest of the month saw a selection of games that weren't that notable, but still good. The series concluded with School's Out week, which finished the series in an entertaining fashion.
So, to finish off this review, here's a list of the Power 5 wins of the series:
1. Suzanne Mulholland (£250,000)
