Ok then! I was thinking about how to liven up the forum a bit, as it's been a bit quiet of late... So, here's what I'm thinking about:

THE DEAL-EYE REVIVAL WORLD CUP SPECIAL TOURNAMENT!

Basically, I propose that this takes place while the World Cup is going on (that is, 12 June to 13 July inclusive).

SO, let's go through the rules NOW and then hopefully everything will be clear in 3 weeks time (should you wish to enter of course, but with a potential GRAND PRIZE FUND, why wouldn't you? ;) )

DEAL-EYE: GAME RULES

1. As before, with Deal-Eye Bet! Each player is given 20 points to start with, predicting whether it'll be a WIN, LOSS or DRAW for the system... (the gamble threshold for DE and Box 23 will be ACB's set figure of £5,140.92, for argument's sake)
HOWEVER, unlike before, you won't be getting any more points this time, and it'll be the player with the most points at the end of 13 July (after the Final) that wins, so BET CAREFULLY! :D

2. As this is a WORLD CUP SPECIAL, I will also be asking for your FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS for the day's fixtures this time. This isn't a bet, but just a scoreline prediction, eg. England 2, Italy 1. If you're correct, you score 3 points and these are SAFE, and a tally is kept in a separate table. England games will be worth 6 points if correct, the Final will be worth 9 points for correct predictions, and if by some absolute MIRACLE, England are in the Final, it'll be 18 points for correct predictions.

3. As the competition enters the knock-out stage, you will have different options for your FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS:
a) You can continue to predict scorelines after 90 minutes/ normal time, 3 if correct (unless England, as above)
b) You can just predict the match will be resolved in EXTRA TIME (and NOT go to penalties), and if you're right, 3 Points (England rules as above)
c) You can predict the match to go to PENALTIES, 3 points if right (again, England rules applicable)
*Only one of these options.

4. The winner of the Deal-Eye competition will be the player that has the most points combined from the main bets AND the football predictions. e.g. if you have 10 betting points left and 15 from your football predictions, your overall score is 25. TIP: This is a marathon, not a sprint this time! ;)

5. There is ONE FINAL TWIST you'll need to consider, but we'll come back to that a bit later!

PRIZE FUND RULES

OK! On to the important details! The PRIZE MONEY!!

This starts on 12 June at £2, and is adjusted according to the results of Box 23 as follows:
DOUBLE = Adds £2 to prize pool
+£10k = Adds £1
MONEY BACK = No change
HALF = Take off £1
NOTHING = Take off £2

Should the prize pool stand at nothing on a particular day, the half/nothing values will have no negative effect. Should there be nothing in the prize pool at the conclusion of the competition (13 July), the winner will still receive £1.

HOWEVER! If you have Ten Football Prediction Points (or more), you can trade these in to play a NO LOSE, then on the next occasion HALF or NOTHING comes up, it will have no effect to the prize fund! Simply be the first player to shout NO LOSE on the MAIN THREAD before the day's Deal game (at least half an hour before the show) for this to be in effect. If two or more players decide to do this on the same day, ONLY the first will count.

All Predictions via PM before 3PM, the results will go up straight after the Football, or following morning, then betting opens. You can submit Football predictions up to half an hour before the first kick-off of the day, if you wish to do those separately.

OK! That's it! 3 Weeks to try and work this lot out, should you wish to enter! GOOD LUCK! :smt023

Any questions...? ;)

Me three. ;)

However, I have no interest in English football, so I'll vote for whatever teams Archie votes for.

I, however, have a great interest in English football; I might stick my oar in, for what it's worth... :smt023

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

Ok, cool! :D :smt023

Not a "vote for a team", just a score prediction (at least for the Group Stages), so it'll likely be a bit of a lottery anyway! All will become clear when we get underway! :D

Just a slight amendment - You can all have 50 points to start with, given the different format 20 seems a bit stingy in hindsight! :smt023

OK THEN! Time to get your bets in for tomorrow's first round! :D :smt023

You each have 50 points to bet on whether it'll be a WIN, LOSS or DRAW for the system (box 23 gamble threshold for Deal-Eye at £5,140.92).

BEWARE! If you run out of points during the tournament, you'll have to rely on your football prediction skills! ;)

For bonus points, get your scoreline predictions in for:

Brazil vs Croatia (17:00 BST)

(So e.g. 50 POINTS - WIN, Brazil 0-0 Croatia)

Predictions via PM by 3PM tomorrow.

Sorry Archie - as you're aware of any trainwreck games coming up which would give you an advantage, you'll just have to help ACB out with his footy predictions :smt023

GOOD LUCK ALL! :D :smt023

I've kept track of what Deal-eye would've done since I made my last update on it, and many will be surprised to hear that so far this year, Deal-Eye would've win more than the player in 56 games whereas the player won more than it in just 33 games. This is also despite the fact that Deal-Eye would've gone to the end in over half the games this year. :suspect:

ACB's already submitted a prediction after all. I might let you participate without any bets on Deal-Eye though, provided everyone else is agreeable... :ponder: :eyes:

Yep, that's fine. :smt023

Since I haven't had access to my deal-eye spreadsheet since early this morning, I'm eagerly awaiting tosee whe ther or not it would've dealt at 5 box today. :ponder:

OK! Time for tonight's results! :D

Image

Indeed the close call ACB anticipated, and personally I can't have too many criticisms for Rafael taking the most generous of the game on every percentage metric. However, I think I'd have wanted a grand more AND viewed that sum as a perfectly viable gamble for box 23! Still, pleased a likeable contestant avoided a complete crash...

Let's see how that affects the DEAL-EYE LEADERBOARD! :eyes:

Image

Yes, some interesting strategies going on... the stop/go betting strategy might be prudent, but more aggressive/brave betting early on could give greater flexibility later. What's your next move? :ponder:  :P

Footie Results Coming up...

Fairly interesting (and somewhat controversial) opening match, let's see the state of play:

Image

AND THERE WE HAVE IT! Self-confessed footy 'expert' Dan grabs those precious 3 points. Too early to judge its significance though, but well done! :smt023 Bad luck everyone else...

BETTING OPENS! :D

Also, get your predictions in before 3PM tomorrow for:

Mexico vs Cameroon (17:00 BST)
Spain vs Netherlands (20:00 BST)
Chile vs Australia (23:00 BST)

Won't be around tomorrow night, so also get these in before 3PM Saturday:

Colombia vs Greece (17:00 BST)
Uruguay vs Costa Rica (20:00 BST)
England vs Italy (23:00 BST) - DOUBLE POINTS

Good luck all! :smt023
