We're back for more Deal or No Deal from our island neighbours, jumping ahead for a festive episode! Sadly, there's no sound in the video, so this will be a screenshot special, with a shorter recap.

We start with an outdoor shot of the Green Box Club members singing Christmas tunes, raising money for charity. The banker's limo stops next to them, and his window opens. They ask for a donation.

Image

The banker throws a bucket of water at them instead!

Image

After the drenching:

Image

You don't want to mess with him! His limo moves on, the carol singers looking stunned.

Image

The set's been spruced up for the occasion. Snowflakes fall on the board's graphic display, glitter balls on the ceiling, and some decorations on the set itself. Today's player is Betty. Keith shows the camera some of her photos, and her friends and family are briefly introduced. She picks box 25 from the choices available.

Image

Before the game begins, we get a recorded message from Noel Edmonds on the screen, who's on the UK set!

Image

This is a bizarre moment, and I would love to know what Noel's saying, but he appears to be supportive of the Irish version, and we briefly cut to Betty, who is happy to see him. He gets his audience to clap, while saying the classic words "Good luck!" (that I can lipread!)

We then jump to a message from Dustin the Turkey!

Image

The famous puppet in Ireland, who most recently led the country into Eurovision in 2008, though he crashed out in the semi final. She's finding his message very funny.

Image

After that, the game begins.

First round:

3: €50,000
20: €25
13: €100,000
5: €100. Keith gives Wayne a golden envelope, which he opens, and is delighted with the contents.

Image

17: €1
12: €250,000!

Image

Offer is €4,000. Doesn't take long for a no deal.

Second round:

21: €5,000
6: €2,000
11: €5
16: €10
7: €50. Keith runs up to Joan and gives her an envelope as well, which she's very happy with!

Image

A good round, keeping intact the top 6. Offer is €8,000. After a short consideration, the offer is no dealt.

Third round:

8: €10,000
26: €1,000
9: €75,000
10: €3,000

All red round, with a 7-4 blue split, and the cent amounts intact. The banker speaks to Betty directly.

Image

Offer is €8,001, surprisingly not going down. Again, a quick no deal.

Fourth round:

18: €150,000! Wayne gives Betty some encouragement.
2: €750
14: 5c. Keith gives Laura C a golden envelope, and after opening it, looks stunned and shocked at its contents!

Image

Final 8:
1c
10c
50c
€250
€500
€15,000
€20,000
€35,000

Offer is €3,333. After 30 seconds of discussion with Keith, she no deals.

Fifth round:

4: 10c
22: €20,000

Keith holds the phone to his mike, and the banker seems happy. Offer is €6,500, 76.8% of the average. She stands up and walks up to her friends and family for advice. Keith calls a break.

We're back, and she's sitting down again. She no deals, to applause.

Sixth round, part 1:

19: €15,000

All-or-nothing game. The banker's happy again, appearing to shout in Keith's ear. He asks a couple of the family members some questions.

Image

Offer is €5,000. More discussion with family members follow. Anita from the GBC gives advice. Betty seems very determined, and her family appear to be with her, especially Wayne. She no deals.

Sixth round, part 2:

24: 50c

A long phone call follows, with some discussion from the family. Offer is €8,003, 89.5% of the average.

Wayne and Betty meet in the middle of the stage, and give each other a hug. He's very excitable! Soon after, she no deals.

Sixth round, part 3:

1: €35,000

Keith gives her a supportive squeeze, disappointed. The box openers look dejected as the crash is fully realised. Phone call, and there's acknowledgement from Keith that the game's over. Some comments from family members follow.

Offer's €250, the average with 1c, €250 and €500 in play. Perhaps an attempt to prevent a 1c win on Christmas Day? With this board, she's happy to no deal.

Sixth round, part 4:

23: 1c

Offer's €350, quickly no dealt.

Endgame:

I think Keith offered the swap, consistent with previous games. She declines.

In her box, 25, is €250. 15 has €500. Her friends and family give supportive clapping. A disappointing end to the game, but the show isn't over yet.

Keith gives her a hamper full of goodies, and a giant golden cracker!

Image

She attempts to pull it with Tommy in the middle of the stage, but are having a bit of a struggle to pull it open!

Image

A second member of the family helps Betty to pull it. Inside is an envelope with a card, which she laughs at and is happy with.

Image

We think it's all over... but it isn't! Her family gather round the steps, and Keith asks Alvin to sing us out, with what is presumed to be a Christmas song.

Image

Fortunately, having the sound disabled does have its advantages!

Next recap is the game played on New Year's Day, another festive game, before things return to normal. I may do quick recaps of 4, 5 and 6 to catchup on the backlog, or do them intermittently with new episodes. See you soon!

This is the kind of game I suspect we'd have had every other week if the show had started in Ireland three years ago!
