Episode 62, January 12 2006 @ 4:15pm
Player: Robbie - has box 19

"2006 is looking like our perfect year," Noel says in the light of yet another OPW yesterday... Robbie sings in a Marvin Gaye tribute band and he once won £500 from a lottery ticket he bought instead of cat food! Noel says he hopes that he's not used up all his luck with that and has some left for today, and Robbie says he thinks he's a lucky man... his cats have chosen his numbers for him!

Box 2 - £100,000! "Not a good first box for you... or for the poor so-and-so who had that on his very first show!"
Box 9 (Vanessa) - £250. "That's more like it!"
Box 10 (Marie) - £75,000! "Oh WHAT?" Robbie winces. "Good job there's 250 there..."
Box 5 (Gill) - 10p! "That's what we needed..."
Box 6 (John) - £10,000. No real reaction, a few groans even. Noel says that "a touch of reality is pervading our dream year"... the Banker says if £250,000 goes in the next round it is the turning point for the rest of the month and beyond!

Banker's offer:

£4,000

A fairly straightforward NO DEAL.

Box 4 (Andrew) - £20,000. "Oh crumbs, not another red..."
Box 8 (Linda) - £10. Noel says this next box must not be £250,000 or the Banker will be having a huge party! We call a break:

First adbreak
1p
50p
£1
£5
£50
£100
£500
£750

£1,000
£3,000
£5,000
£15,000
£35,000
£50,000
£250,000

Box 13 (Alan) - "the spooky box had better not haunt us for the rest of the game - it cannot be the quarter of a million!" - 50p!

The Banker phones and says it's all OK because during the break he heard through the grapevine that the 1p was in Box 19!! "Oh come off it!" says Noel, who reminds us the independent adjudicator is the only person who knows where the money is... "...or as far as we know, that is the case..."

Banker's offer:

£6,500

Robbie says he is determined to prove the Banker wrong - "let's get it on!" he cries to cheers! NO DEAL.

Noel says he's worried about this game now but really wants Robbie to do well...

Box 7 (Liz) - £50,000! "Oh crumbs!"
Box 16 (Miguel) - £1,000. "Again, it's red!" Noel really builds up the 1p...
Box 18 (Ann) - £35,000!

Robbie says that maybe he's missed the £250,000 only because he has it... the Banker says everything is going according to plan!

Banker's offer:

£6,000

Terry says that as long as the £250,000 stays the offers will keep going up and up... Arlette says there's nothing else left, and Robbie says "well what about the £15,000?"... NO DEAL!

Noel says every box is vital now, as we cannot afford the £250,000 to go, and really need the 1p to go...

Box 20 (Terry) - 1p! A huge roar of relief! "Well," Noel says as the crowd calm down, "now we know the Banker was just talking out of his backside." Cue laughter.
Box 22 (Geordie) - £250,000! Geordie, who'd been wildly celebrating the 1p going, now stands in disbelief, as does everyone else.

"There's still £15,000 to play for, the perfect game is actually still on would you believe, and you're going to come back and hopefully see it happen."

Second adbreak, a.k.a. Let's Watch CITV Instead
£1
£5
£50
£100
£500
£750

£3,000
£5,000
£15,000

Box 21 (Arlette) - £500. There is some applause... the Banker said that after the 1p went, seeing the £250,000 gave him the sweetest feeling!! Robbie points out that wasn't a Marvin Gaye song and the Banker said he was just testing Robbie's resolve!!

Had this not been noticed, Banker's offer would've been:

£500

Instead...

Banker's offer:

£2,000

Terry says it's good for what's left but Robbie says there's three higher and he might as well go after the £15,000 now... NO DEAL.

Box 1 (Gerry) - £3,000. "Not really what we wanted..."
Box 12 (Jim) - £100. "Now we need another blue." "Yeah, you're telling me..."

Squashdown
£1
£5
£50
£750

£5,000
£15,000

Box 15 (Jools) - £5! "We've got another one!"

The Banker thinks Robbie is chasing the money and needs to be stopped, and says this is a "very generous offer"...

Banker's offer:

£3,500

Terry says that's "probably as good as you're going to get", Arlette says "you don't want a blue, do you?", and Robbie says "not really!" - and sure enough, DEAL!

"Some people cling to any last hope they have and chase their losses, but you're not that kind. Let's see what would've happened if you were..."

Box 17 (Aileen) - £5,000. "Now find the fifteen..."
Box 11 (Vaughan) - £750...
Box 3 - £1!

A final showdown of £50 vs £15,000... the Banker says he has his victory!

Banker's offer would've been:

£7,000

Noel says we need to find out what's in the box because it's a sizeable profit if it's £50...

And £50 it is! "Well, that's not a bad result is it? Sold a £50 box for £3,500..." Box 14 had the £15,000. Noel concludes by saying it was an interesting game, because there were higher offers either side of the Deal and it wasn't a big-money game but it still feels like a decent result!

I made the Banker 'joke' about the 1p (goodness, why wasn't more made in the show of the Marvin Gaye thing? It would be now!!) without having looked for where it was! I was genuinely tense every box the 1p wasn't revealed and was so happy when it went - and then the £250k goes next box... this is one of my favourite games in this series despite the modest outcome!
